Madi Baker is a cartoonist and illustrator originally from Southern Missouri. She ditched her career as a freelance graphic designer to attend the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont—the Midwestern millennial equivalent of running away to join the circus. Madi makes nonfiction and self-reflective comics with a particular fascination and compassion for both critters and people alike. When Madi isn't drawing (which is rare), you can find her with her partner, either throwing sticks into the nearest body of water for her puppy to chase or hiding in a pillow fort, impatiently waiting for her chocolate chip cookies to be done baking.
Madi has a BFA in Illustration from Missouri State University and an MFA from the Center for Cartoon Studies. She immerses herself into the world of comics, making work that spans from memoir and travelogue, to cut paper, and non-fiction. She’s also been accepting commissions as a freelance cartoonist, illustrator, and designer since 2014 from clients ranging from large corporate companies to private clients.
In addition to creating comics, Madi has an affinity for teaching the craft as well. She’s recently ventured into teaching, having worked cartooning workshops with acclaimed cartoonists such as Jon Chad, Kane Lynch, and Paul Karasick.
